Essay Topics For the Constitution - Federal, State, and State Rights

Essay Topics For the Constitution - Federal, State, and State RightsIt is hard to find essay topics for the Constitution 2nd grade. Even harder to decide which essay topic to use. What about the same subject on student government? You can't use that topic on something which isn't a child's project, but how do you decide which one is best for the Constitution's subjects. The most obvious answer is the three subjects we consider here, but they are all subjects that are taught in our public schools. There isn't just one essay topic that fits all. We need to look at the subject of each of these and consider why they are great topics for the Constitution. One thing about public schools is that their curriculum is not standardized. Teachers are expected to make their lesson plans up as they go along. Many times a teacher will not be familiar with the subject matter of one topic and what to use it for. The teacher can substitute different words to fit it into her lesson plan and still get cre dit for teaching it. But it would not count as an essay topic on the Constitution.Another problem with using the government part of the Constitution to teach kids is that most of the government part is the history of the U.S. Government. I cannot believe that your children would be learning about the War of 1812 in an essay about the first ten amendments. Children are better off learning about the many things that make the U.S. a great country rather than learning about how to kill Indians.Remember the amendment that said 'The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed'? That's too long to have two paragraphs about it. So, the constitutional story of that amendment should be used in the essay to tell the story of how the Second Amendment came about. Perhaps they could use it as an example in explaining the difference between a right and a privilege. What about the other section which talks about the rights? What about the rights in other states? Teach the kids a bout state rights, foreign and federal laws, common rights such as freedom of speech, the right to counsel, property rights, and so on.Many of these Constitutional sections could be used to help make the U.S. a more harmonious place and where there is less violence. Imagine that a child went to school reading about the rights of states to tax themselves. It is not the job of educators to write the future of the country, but I hope that you will consider how much of your children's future they are affecting. How many things do they learn in school? Make sure that you are making the most of them.
